Ingredients
This guayaba drink is made from four simple ingredients: fresh guavas, sugar, lime juice, and water.
- Guavas: Feel free to use yellow or pink guavas as long as they're ripe.
- Lime Juice: Omit the lime juice if you don't want it, or substitute with lemon juice. Make sure it's freshly squeezed for the best flavor.
- Sugar: This sweetens the guayaba drink and enhances the flavors of the guavas and lime juice.
- Water: This dilutes this fresh guayaba drink to stretch it.
See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Variations
Want to change up the flavor of this agua fresca? There's lots of ways to do that.
- Sweetener: instead of granulated sugar, try turbinado sugar.
- Fruit: puree some pineapple, watermelon, fresh ginger, or mango with the guavas.
- Citrus: add a little lemon, orange, or grapefruit juice instead of lime.
- Seasoning: add a pinch of canela (Mexican cinnamon) for something different.
How to Make
Gather the ingredients. You'll need water, sugar, and one pound of fresh guavas. Grab some fresh limes if you'd like to add some lime juice.
- Rinse the guavas in a strainer (affiliate).
- Slice off the ends of the guavas and cut each one in half.
3. Place the halved guavas in a food processor (affiliate) or blender and add ¼ cup of sugar and a little of the water.
4. Blend until the guavas are puréed and smooth.
5. Strain the guava puree to remove the hard seeds.
6. Your puree should be very smooth after removing the seeds.
7. Mix the remaining water and the freshly squeezed lime juice into the puree. Add additional sugar or lime juice to taste. You should have 7 ½ cups of agua de guayaba.
8. Serve this guayaba agua fresca chilled or with ice.
Recipe FAQs
