INGREDIENTS

Gather the ingredients for the blaas before you start.  That makes baking them easy and fun!

Dry Ingredients

Pour the bread flour into the bowl of a stand mixer.  Add the salt and yeast on opposite sides, then stir them into the flour.

Wet Ingredients

Mix in the butter and sugar until blended, then trickle in the water until a sticky dough forms.

Kneading

Switch to the dough hook and knead on medium-low speed for 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and stretchy.

Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces, then roll each one into a ball.

Place the dough in a bowl, cover , and let it  rise until doubled in size, 1-1 ½ hours.

Shaping

Place the balls of dough with their sides touching on a baking tray, then sprinkle with flour for the traditional decoration.

Second Prove

Cover the blaas with plastic and let them prove until doubled in size, about 50 minutes.

Bake & Cool

Bake at 400°F for 15-20 minutes, until they are nicely browned and have an internal temperature of 200°F.

Let the blaa buns cool briefly, then enjoy split in half with Irish butter, or made into a chip butty (french fry sandwich).
