Treacle Sponge Pudding


What You Need

You don't need a lot of ingredients to make this comforting treacle sponge pudding!

Prep the Basin

1. Grease a 1.5L pudding basin and line the base with parchment.  Add 3 tbsp golden syrup. 2. Beat the sugar, butter, and treacle for 2 minutes.


3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, adding a spoonful of flour with each one. 4. Stir in the golden syrup, flour, salt, and baking powder.

Prep for Steaming

5. Spread the sponge mixture in the prepared basin, leveling the top. 6. Cut a piece of parchment and foil for the cover, and fold a pleat in the center.


7. Cover the pudding and tie the cover on tightly with string. 8. Steam for 2 hours, or until a skewer inserted comes clean.


9. Let the pudding stand for 5 minutes, then run a knife round the edge and turn it onto a plate. 10. Serve hot with pouring custard.
