Saute the onion until it's soft, then add some broth and scrape off the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Spread the cooked onions and thyme in a roasting pan, then pour in the juices and broth.

bake

Cover the ham with foil and cook at 275°F for 12 minutes a pound, or until a thermometer reads 140°F.

serve

Tent the ham with foil and let it rest for 20 minutes.  Baste the ham with the juices, then serve.

Want to shorten cooking time? Let the ham come to room temperature.

Want more flavor? Use a bone-in ham.

Why tent with foil?  The juices will redistribute so they're not lost when cut.
