HOW TO MAKE POUR OVER COFFEE

By Savor the Flavour

ready to learn how to make amazing pour over coffee at home?

Let's boost those barista skills and have some fun!

Start with This...

Make sure you have a pour over coffee maker, filter, kitchen scale, and a stopwatch ready to go!

Choose the Right Ratio

There's no hard-and-fast ratio that works for every type of coffee, but start with a 1:14 or 1:16 ratio.

That means use 1 gram of coffee per 14 or 16 grams of water.

We're Ready to Go!

1

Choose the yield and ratio, then measure the coffee beans and water with the scale.

2

Pour the beans into a conical burr grinder.

We're Ready to Go!

Grind the coffee on a medium setting.  It should resemble coarse sand or brown sugar in texture.

3

Ready, Set, Brew!

4

Pour a little boiling water through the coffee filter to warm up the brewer.

5

Pour the coffee into the filter and heat the water to 200°F.

Blooming

Pour enough water over the grounds so there's twice as much water as grounds by weight. Wait 30-45 seconds.

6

Pulse Pouring

7

Pour in the remaining water in 3-4 batches, going in a spiral from the center.

8

Let all the coffee drip through to the bottom.

The Test of a Good Pour

If the grounds are flat, that means you did a good pour and got an even extraction.

Congrats! You did it!

9

Pour the coffee into your favorite mug.  It's time to enjoy it!

10

Add milk, cream, or sugar as desired and enjoy immediately!

Congrats on your new barista skills!
