Authentic Cuban Bread Recipe


What You Need

You don't need a lot of ingredients to make a wonderful loaf of Cuban bread!

Start the Dough

Sift the flour, then mix together the water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl.

Mix & Knead

Stir in the melted lard and half of the flour, then gradually add the remaining flour. Knead the dough until it is smooth.


Let it prove until at least doubled in size, about 1 hour.  Punch down the dough and split it into two pieces, then pat it into a rectangle.


Roll it up from one of the long edges and pinch the seam to seal. Sanitize a few palmetto fronds, then press them into the loaves down the middle.

Prove Again

Flip the loaf over, then let it rise until nearly doubled.Flip the bread over, using the parchment to turn the loaf carefully.


Bake at 425°F for 20-25 minutes. Let the bread cool completely, then slice as desired and enjoy.
